About the press
We keep the receipts,
properly bound.
QR8D is a small independent press, started by two librarians, a picture editor and one printer who kept insisting it could not be done at that size.
Our subject is the last thirty years of shared attention: what people made, why it travelled, and how quickly it vanished afterwards. We handle it the way a museum handles a print collection, because that is what it is.
Two volumes a year, then we stop. No app, no membership tier, no algorithm choosing the next page for you. A book opens exactly where you left it — still the best interface anyone has shipped.
How a volume gets made

Research
Two editors, six months, primary sources only. Every item is dated, credited and traced back to where it first appeared.

Edit
Anything that needs a caption to be interesting gets cut. That is roughly four fifths of what we gather.
- 03
Set
Typeset in Archivo and Newsreader, one spread at a time, corrected on paper proofs rather than screens.
- 04
Print
Offset in Verona on uncoated stock, Smyth-sewn to lie flat, then boxed flat and shipped tracked.
